stephtort Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Have you ever stared at a problem so long that you can't see the obvious solution? That's where I am right now.... someone please help! Attached are two DBs that I need to define relationships in. I've followed all the tutorials I've found and CANNOT get the related file to populate the master file. I am at my wits end..... no matter what I do - info doesn't show up in the 2nd file.... Can someone please look at these, EDIT & EMAIL or at least tell me what I'm missing?: I'm not an idiot - but this problem is certainly making me feel like one! Thanks Stephanie www.mcgc.net mcgc.zip
stephtort Posted January 24, 2003 Author Posted January 24, 2003 sorry!!! I thought I took them all off... "test"
Ugo DI LUCA Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 What do you want to do exactly with these files ? I put both unit name and competing class into the body in the List file, using your relationship Classifications to retrieve the information from your 2003 file...It works so far, but I do not see where this leads us. I hope you do not want to enter the records for January 11th. If so, you should have this date into the main file or have to reconsider your file. Please tell me. Would be glad to help if I can. Kurt Knippel Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 What is a record in the 2003.fp5 DB? What is a record in the ShowLists.fp5 DB? How are these two DBs are related?
stephtort Posted January 24, 2003 Author Posted January 24, 2003 Here's what I'm trying to do.... My end result after all of this is to learn CDML and move this all to custom web publishing, but I'm not to that point yet, so i'm trying to create relational DB's using instant web publishing so that when I publish to the web, the other people that need access to these files are seeing them correctly - right now they're not. Right now - everything shows up as single records in form view - and I need more options. I feel that 1 DB in form format/view and 1 db in table format/view is the way to go. The files I sent you are "dummy" files based on our current DB's - I removed extra layouts and only left a few records in with info to test with. We have a membership db with 67 members (db=membership). These 67 members tell us if they are attending or not attending 12 competitions this year (db=availability). Trying to create reports that are viewed correctly via a web browser. Right now, IWP only allows 2 layouts as defaults for viewing a single db - table view & form view. I need to create several layouts that are table view but still keep several that are form view. My idea is to combine all data from membership & availability into the main file - membership - and then create a new relational db with all of my tables or "reports". That way, when they click to see who's attending a specific date - it's table view of all attendees, not single records at a time in form view. Does this make sense? I used the "showlists" db as a test with just tomorrow's date to just get relationships working - and I can't even get that! So I'm frustrated! In the end - custom is the way to go, I know this - but I'm just not there yet!!! Please help if you can! Stephanie
Kurt Knippel Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 OK, your main problem is trying to reinvent your DB around the limitation of IWP. IWP is there for simple web publishing needs, your are beyond that. DO NOT MODIFY YOUR DATABASES, use custom web publishing and create the CDML/HTML pages to show your data as you want it see on the web.
Ugo DI LUCA Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Just to make sure. January 11th isn't a date for an event. It's just today's date. You want all the files from 2003 to be viewed in a table into showlist. You want to have a list of all your members sorted by competing class.
stephtort Posted January 24, 2003 Author Posted January 24, 2003 I KNOW CDML is the way to go.... I'm trying to get my relationships to work first..... that's my problem. I just need unit name & class to show up in the second file.... and it's not....
Ugo DI LUCA Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 I can see both record but do not know where you want to go with this. Look attachment for modified files.
stephtort Posted January 27, 2003 Author Posted January 27, 2003 dilucaugo68 - please help me out if you can. I've re-attached my working files..... I've tried to copy/recreate what you did with my "dummy" files... but I still can't get it to work. Please check it out and see if you can get the relationships to work.... I still can't. Thanks.
