Need Help Associating Field Options

Hello, I am creating a hardware inventory for a college campus, I need to be able to associate OEMs with their products, both the type of product and the actual models they sell. Each of my fields would be a pull down list. Here is an example of what I would like to do:

Field #1: Device Type: Desktop Computer, Laptop Computer, Laser Printer, Inkjet Printer, etc ...

Now based on your selection from Field #1 I want different options to be available for Field #2.

If you chose Desktop Computer then Field #2 will display only manufacturers of Desktop Computers, however, if you choose Laser Printer it will only display manufacturers of Laser Printers.

Field #1: Device Type: Laser Printer

Field #2: Brand: Apple, HP, Xerox, etc ...

Field #3 would then display only the models associated with that brand, ie if I chose Apple it would show LaserWriters not HP LaserJets.

Field #1: Device Type: Laser Printer

Field #2: Brand: Apple

Field #3: LaserWriter 16/600, LaserWriter 12/640, etc ...

It is my understanding I can make this happen but I am unclear as to how, can anyone point me in the right direction? I am running FileMaker Pro 5.5 in Mac OS X v.10.2.3 if it helps any.

Thanks in advance,

You could do this with dynamic value lists.

Assuming that you have a DB which has all this stuff categorized, then just make a relationship to that DB via Field One, this will be used for the value list for Field Two, which will be used for the value list for Field Three and so on.

For more detail try searching the forum for "conditional value list" or "dynamic value list". This comes up very often and there are lots of good answers.
