ddreese Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 I'm having problems getting the portal to do what I want. I have a portal to an 'allegations' database from the main file. I have a relationship set up based on a field called 'mis #' which is bascially a serial number for each client that comes in. In the portal I'm including multiple fields from the allegation to summarize each record. I wanted to have this portal so when I go into a client's records it will show the 'history' allegations for the client. But what it does is just duplicate the record that I'm viewing. For instance, I have a client "john smith" with a mis number of 24, who has had a case open before. When I'm in john smith's most recent record in the main file, I'll switch to a different layout that will give me the portal. What it does is just duplicate the same infomation in the first pane of the portal instead of copying the information from a record that was already there.
Razumovsky Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 You need to make sure that the relationship the portal is based on is from serial# in clients to serial# in Allegations. It sounds like it is from serial# in clients to serial# in Clients. If that doesnt work, post some more info on the relationship. -Raz

It has the correct ammount of records coming through the portal, but the information stays the same.
Razumovsky Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 OK, Check that the fields in the portal are coming from your related file. Go to layout mode and verify that each field in the portal looks like YourRelationshipName::Field1 YourRelationshipName::Field2 YourRelationshipName::Field3... if it just says field1 field2 field3... then it is displaying fields from your current record, not the related one. Related fields will be preceded by a relationship name and "::" -Raz
ddreese Posted February 12, 2003 Author Posted February 12, 2003 Ahhhh, rookie mistake. I had the fields from the file correct, but i was using a different relationship. I feel stupid. Thanks for your help!
