accessing FM server

Featured Replies

Hi

Is it possible to access a FM Server using a Mac in OS X if the Server is running OS 9.

peter

Yes.

Any client on any platform can access any server.

The only thing is important -- FM version. FM3 and FM4 cannot be mixed with versions => 5.

Thank you for replying.

I am still having problems accessing the database in X. If I connect to the Filemaker Server ( Beige G3 OS 9.2.2 Filemaker Server v5.5) and open database "DOCKET" I get a message

"DOCKET" is currently in use and could not be opened. The file is single-user or the host could not be found on the network. Yet if I restart my Mac in OS 9.2.2 its fine.

I am using a ibook , Filemaker Pro 6v4 . I have also tried this on several Macs in OSX but still no luck.

I believe that I'm having the same troubles. Guests in OS 9.1 using FM 5.5 can't access the host computer when it runs FM 5.5 in OS X (but it works when I use OS 9.2). In OS X other non-FM files can be opened from guest computers so I know the network is running properly. I've set sharing to multi-user. What's going on? Please help!

It sounds like you are attempting to open files via file sharing instead of using FileMaker Pro's "Open Remote" in the File menu (or the Hosts button in the Open dialog in FM 5.0). Also check that both the host and client machines are set to the same network protocol (e.g. TCP/IP).
