February 22, 200322 yr Hi Everyone! Well, for goodness sakes! Either I dislike the way FM (doesn't) show what is stored in a scripted Find, Sort or Export ... or ... I'm missing something here. It drives me nuts not to know what has been stored in these three script steps. Wouldn't it make sense to include a comment line before Sort, Find or maybe even Export - identifying what has been stored? For instance on sort - the sort sequence: Customer(A), ServiceDate (A)? Well, I've never seen a script which lists the sort order so it's quite possible I'm misunderstanding an important point! Can someone clarify for me before I start adding comments in this way? February 23, 200322 yr Hi LaRetta, I bounced to your post as I was just looking for a solution to make comments on scripts. I saw some test files or demos of you experts with these comments lines (even in define fields) and wondered how to set these comments. So sad you didn't make my day... Does anyone here could give the answer ? For your particular question, though... Instead of using a script step Find/Sort/Export in another script, you could create multiple scripts and use their names to identify the defs. i.e. Sort_by1date2name3department or Export_allexcept_calcs,...and then call these scripts as Sub-Script for find/sort/export . Does it make sense ? ...or as those really organised developpers, create a "database" of your database storing links, scripts,...
February 23, 200322 yr If you print a script, you will get the sort order etc shown. (I normally print to pdf, then copy the text). For example: Sort [ Sort Order: Date (Ascending)Text_IP (Ascending) ][ Restore sort order, No dialog ] Other than that, I'd suggest a descriptive name for the script or comment line(s)
February 23, 200322 yr Author Hi Ugo You help me ... I help you! Don't you just LOVE this Forum? Scroll down to the very bottom (when viewing by category) where Miscellaneous is (with Show Message and Custom Dialog) and you'll find Comment! Cool huh? Hi Russ Oh thank you! I've printed many scripts to text printer to view them but only have probably two Sorts stored and didn't notice it! Does this also apply to Finds and Exports? Yes, I believe in using Comments to describe the upcoming script process. I couldn't imagine NOT commenting as I went, although I'm still new to scripts so I have little direct experience in that regard. Thank you! I don't need to list the sort sequence in the Comment line! YAY! LaRetta
