errorist Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 My FM5.5 application (12mb size) is used by 8 or 10 users at the same time (no fm server). Every now and then the app freezes and the mousepointer changes into a coffeecup. What does this mean, is there a lag in the network, or are there too many users? Thanks in advance.
Fitch Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 Could be a network lag, or more common, the hosting machine is preoccupied with other (non-FileMaker) tasks. Make sure FM is the frontmost application, turn off file sharing on the host machine, etc. With 8-10 users, you really should be thinking about moving to FM Server.
Kurt Knippel Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 There is a squiggly line with arrows on both ends and it is animated in waves to indicate network lag or activity. The coffee cup indicates that the host is busy with some task and cannot process anything else. 8-10 users is really pushing the limits of Filemaker peer-to-peer sharing capabilities. You'll find that moving to FM Server will greatly inclrease productivity and will basically eliminate the coffee cup, as it is multi-threaded and can process multiple tasks at the same time.
