I want to use a field twice (actualy like 15 times) on a page, however, I want to be able to enter a different value in each field. Can this be done or do I have to define a new field for each value entry?

Thanks

You must understand the structure of FileMaker files. A file (table) consists of Fields you create. Fields (with some exceptions) exist once per Record. You can enter different data in the same field (Say a text field called "First Name") in different records. Think of a single FM file as a rolodex box of 3x5 cards. Each card has a name field, each different card is a record.

If you place 15 copies of the "First Name" field on a non-List view layout, you can still enter only one value per record. If you have a layout that is a list view and place one copy of the field "First Name" on the layout, you can enter as many values of "First Name" as there are records.

How about telling us what you are trying to do?

OK, here's an idea of what I'm trying to do.

When I get a tape in, I have to do certain things to it:

Date in:

Digitize:

Drop in Session:

Notify Editor:

Notify Prod:

Move Old Edit:

What I want to do is enter the date, and then have checkboxes for each step that needs to be done. As I've said, we get multiple tapes (usually 1 a day) for each project (one project per record) so I'll need to go through this process many times for each record.

Hope this helps.

I was right!

Create two files:

One called "Projects", with a "ProjectName" field that must be unique.

A second called, oh anything ... maybe "Process", with the six fields, and a "ProjectName" field.

In "Projects", create a relationship based on both files' "ProjectName" fields. Then create a portal with the six fields from the second file.

Et voil
