blomgren
Bob Weaver's checkboxes are great... now if I could only store the values of the checkboxes, clear the checkboxes, store more values and add them to the last batch. I can clear the checkboxes but the values go with it.
Mike D.
I don't remember the thread you are talking about, but you could use a looping script to add the values to a separate field before you clear the checkboxes. Your script could also update the values of the previous batch. HTH, Mike
danjacoby
Could the entry field maybe be a global field?
BobWeaver
I think it was referring to the question posted in this thread: http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB45&Number=60316&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=31&fpart=1 But that was for a very specific situation used to split up multiple checkbox items into multiple records for export. I don't see any reason why you would want to use this method for one record at a time. There are likely better ways to solve your problem. Can you give us more details about what you are trying to do?
blomgren
Bob, Sorry I was gone so long. I started working on a different part of the db. I realize the error of my thinking (I am working on a db for a school district and playing with attendance charts. The horizontal portal seems to be a better solution for that problem. But since I am new and relatively unexperienced (to be honest I am really a spinner and weaver! that got myself in too deep!!!)... anyway, I am having a hard time with relational databases and summaries. Can you recommend some good books? Thanks for all your help. The forum is a GREAT resource! Trish
BobWeaver
My favourite beginner to intermediate level book is the one by Coulombre and Price, "Special Edition Using Filemaker Pro." It's based on version 5 (unless there is a newer edition than mine). But that shouldn't really matter. There aren't enough new features in version 5.5 or 6 to make any significant difference.
