FileMaker Pro Server unrelated to Web Service?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Am I correct in my assessment that FileMaker Pro Server, by itself' does not provide an facility for 'Web Companion' access, and that in order to provide web access to a file hosted with the server application that I would need to have a 'client' FMPro running and connected to a database hosted by the server, and that the client would provide Web Companion availablility?

Thanks!

Hi me (again),

Well, I'm no expert, but based on my experience and from reading what others have posted...

"This is correct. You have to remember that both the web access and direct access on this machine look like the same user. A web user is NOT like a separate guest on the network connecting with the PC as the host. That is why the preferred architecture is to use FM Server on a separate machine and dedicate one machine connected as a client to the server as the "Web" machine. No one would work in front of this "web" machine."

That, indeed, the Filemaker Pro Server has no direct bearing or role in hosting of Filemaker integrated web applications.

Cheers & Good luck!

Correct.

E.g. Unlimited can server the database from the same machine or can be connected to FM server.

FM server doesn't know a bit about where data ends.
