Hi all,

I have a problem:

1 server

10 databases

Databases needs to be shared on the web - so am running FMPro Unlimited

Databases now also needs to be shared through the company for users who connect using FMPro.

I know the users can connect to the databases using FMPro if I set the databases to be multi-user but from what I understand, Multi-user databases on FMPro Unlimited will oly deal with one request at a time, therefor making FMP Server the better option.

But as I said I only have 1 server!

Is it possible to run FMP Unlimited AND FMP Server on the same machine serving the same databases?

Many Thanks

Ed.

Possible - but hardly recommended.

A lot depends on the Web and "guest" demands.

You don't say which platform, but if you are Mac then OS X is the only realistic option as there are no "foreground" issues.

A cheapo PC would probably handle the FMP Unlimited if you could get another machine.

Hi,

I am running it on windows 2000 OS

If I got another cheap PC for the unlimited could I have the same database open in unlimited and in server at the same time both of them serving?

If a change was made in one would the update in the other be immediate?

Many Thanks

Ed

FM Server will open all databases.

FMU will open the db from HOST button or script from FM Server.

Do not worry much about FMU is single threaded if:

You are using Custom Web Publishing

There is up to 50-100 users browsing in the same moment

You are not using FM scripts in CDML solution.

I somewhat miss the responses that would come out of the woodwork when statements like this were made. shocked.gif
