What is OS X Remote Access Connection Services? I have been told that this can be used to host remote Filemaker databases in OS X and that is considerable faster than Filemaker Server. I have also been told that it is similar to Terminal Services in Windows 2000.

I haven't heard of it. However, if it is similar to Terminal Services that will be great. FM works very well with Terminal Services (The only Microsoft product I like).

I hope it is real.

All the best.

Garry

p.s. I have been using Microsoft "Remote Desktop Connection" with OS X to talk to a Win2000 server.

johncrane, I do not have the answer. While you await someone more knowledgeable than me, I would suggest a search of "Remote Desktop Connection" at Microsoft or on AltaVista, Google ... (yer fave search engine).

Microsoft RDC is a Remote Desktop Client, use it to access Win 2000 Servers. It's simply a virtual terminal, you catually work on the Win2K machine. So it's good to access a FileMaker Client running on Win2K machine.

Apple RDC is both client and server. Again, it just transports sreen/keybord/mouse info from/to another computer. i don't see how any of the RDC implementations can be used to host remote Filemaker databases in OS X.

Both solutions can be used for remote administration of FileMaker server and the machine it is running on, though.

But here, I would rather recommend VNC because it is truly cross-platform (image controlling your Mac from a palm ...) and absolutely free...

Reading the original post, i understand that you are looking for Remote ACCESS connection.

It's just a dial-in service like a ppp-server. You can use it to dial into a remote machine via modem (and thus are able to connect to a remote filemaker server)..
