DigitalDreamer Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 I hope i am posting this in the correct section. Is it possible to insert multiple images into a container field for the same record. I currently have a database i made to keep track of my cd collection. And i wanna put a scanned image of the front and rear cover in 1 container field. I seen this done one time but at that time i never thought i would use it. Thanks for any help you can give me.
kenneth2k1 Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Hi: As far as I know, you can only store one image in one container field per record. However, you can store the images in a separate file and relate it to your main file. If you need help with this, look into relationships and viewing related records. Ken
LaRetta Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Hi DigitalDreamer, You can certainly paste two graphics in one container field - but they will become one graphic - which sounds like it might work in your instance. Place both front & back covers on the form in Layout Mode, select both graphics, copy, switch to Browse and then paste them into a container. You may want to Align them first. Will you ever want to search for, and view, only 'back covers' for instance? If not, you won't need a relationship. If you really need the graphics separate, you can also (I know, don't everyone kick me), set up two Reps on the Container field to hold front & back covers - only use reps if you know you won't be needing the data separated later. kenneth2k1 Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 That's interesting, LaRetta. I never knew that. Pretty neat. It think this might be good if you don't plan on entering alot of records, or if it is for personal use because this technique means that users would have to have access to Layout Mode. However, setting up a relationship might take more time and work, but it would be easier to input these images during data entry time. You could also just have two containers next to each other: front cover, back cover (if that's the extent of the images you want per rec). Just my opinion. Ken
DigitalDreamer Posted May 22, 2003 Author Posted May 22, 2003 Thanks for the replies. I seen someone do this about 2 weeks ago on a screenshot on ebay. He had a container field with a scroll bar in it to navigate the images up and down the container field. I have been looking for it all day so i could post the screenshot url. If i find it i will post the screenshot. The person even stated in the description in was written in Filemaker Pro 6.
kenneth2k1 Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 This is just a guess, but it could have been a container in a portal to a related image file (or repetitions) - all very possible to do in FM
DigitalDreamer Posted May 22, 2003 Author Posted May 22, 2003 I found the screenshot. http://www.delphospc.com/container.jpg I thought this was a great idea i just cannot figure out how they did this.
kenneth2k1 Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 I made a quick solution to demonstrate this. the thing's about 550k, so if you give me your e-mail address, i can e-mail it to you. I knocked it out in about 5 minutes, and I used the photo catalog template, so ignore the notice that looks for the keyword file, and there is alot of extra stuff there. Ken
LaRetta Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 Hi, The portal could be to a related graphics file or it could be a self-join. Either way, it would use either two container fields to hold front & back or use two Repetitions. But it also appears that it may be one graphic in one container field and then displaying only one row of the portal. We probably can't say for certain. How do you want it structured? However you decide to structure it, the look can be easily accomplished in any case LaRetta
DigitalDreamer Posted May 23, 2003 Author Posted May 23, 2003 Thanks for the reply. My email address is [email protected]
Charles Delfs Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 If it is just the front back back of a CD cover, That is, a fixed and limited # of pics you want to store, make the image container a repeating field with say 4 repetitions one's for front, back and insides etc. Charles
