serving images from seperate physical drive

Featured Replies

We currently have a Filemaker 5 database that is a searchable image archive (jpgs etc) and is served by Filemaker Unlimited 5.5 (Windows) over the web. So if a user wants to find a jpg image related to a particular subject they can search for it from the web enabled Filemaker page.

Currently the images reside in the FileMaker Web folder but we now want the images to exist on a separate physical drive in the PC. Do anyone know how to accomplish this with Filemaker Unlimited? Thanks.

IMHO, that is not possible. But put the images to your web server and link them from FM database through Absolute URL.

You could serve them from a different drive on the same PC, but I think it would require you running a second Web Server application, on a different port (ie not 80), on the same PC.

I do this on a Mac.

I have FMUnlimited running on port 80

I also have QuidProQuo (a freeware server app) running on port 8080

This frees FMUnlimited up from serving files which do not involve a FileMaker Call.

With Unix (Mac OS X) you can create a Symbolic Link to the images on the other drive. If you can find a Windows equivalent give it a go.

Good Luck.
