Finding related file records in a portal

I have a layout in form view that has data pertaining to an organization.

In this layout I have a portal to another file that has names data.

The key that links these two is a numeric field called organization_ID.

The portal fields are Prefix, First name, Last Name, Suffix, Birthday.

I want to enter in the first name and last name in the portal and do a search in the related records. Is there a way to do this? If I get multiple matches, I would like to choose from the results. If I get no match then I want to

create a new record in the related file.

Hi,

Welcome to this forum.

Start with some reading in the Article Section. You'll find a post called Find in Portals from DJ.

Basically, better than searching in a portal, do your search in the related file.

Hi Joe,

When trying to search for names, the problem you will run into, is that Users can type only part of the name

Hi Laretta,

Thanks for the Information. I am not quite sure that I understand it all

though. I tried implamenting this. What I ended up with in my FindNames field

in the Parent file was selection of the entire list of names. When I select one, it put it into my portal row. I implamented the find button, but I am unclear as to where I am supposed to enter the name to find.

Hi Joe, I might have steered you wrong by mis-assuming. Let's look at this again ...
