Hello All,

I'm hoping someone can assist me with a problem I'm having with the formatting of something I'm working on...

Is it possible to make create a template in such a way that at the top of a page, I would have some constant-information, have a section full of variable data (which can range from one line to many lines), then continue onto a second page with more constant-information show up at the top, variable data continued from page1, and finally more constant data at the bottom of page2? To clarify, there is an example below...

For Example:

~Page 1~

Constant-Info (perhaps a company logo, addressing-info, and letterhead),

Variable-Info (data, ranging from lines 1 to 6)

~End of Page 1~

~Page 2~

Constant-Info (say the company logo again),

Variable-Info (data continued from before, lines 7-10),

Constant-Info (more info, say "Hope to hear from you soon... Yours Truly, AeroGuy")

~End of Page 2~

The lines of data (1-10) are arbitrary. I'm not sure if FileMaker can be setup to be formatted in this matter (like a Microsoft Word document). Perhaps this sortof problem would just be better off dealt with in MS-Word? Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

AeroGuy

ok... let me ask this question in a simpler fashion...

1.) is it possible to set it so that the FOOTER information doesn't show up on the FIRST PAGE (and just on page 2 and onwards)?

2.) is it possible to set it so that you can have two types of HEADERS? i.e. can there be one header that shows up on the first page, and another header that shows up on page 2 and onwards?

Thanks,

AeroGuy

What you are looking for is Title Header and Title Footer. When you are in layout mode, go to Layouts-->Part Setup and you can create/add the header and footer to your layout.

You want to create a Title Header and Title Footer on your layout.

Check out the Help menu in FileMaker for info.

okay guys, i got the title header/footer stuff figured out now. just one more question... is there a way to make a footer/header that shows up ONLY on the last page (as opposed to title headers/footers which are used to show up on the first page)?

thanks to all of you for your help.

Hmmmm, that depends on what you want the header/footer to show. I could be wrong but I don't know of a way to have a header that only shows up on the last page. You can put a Grand Summary footer but, to quote the help file

"When you place a summary field in this part, the summary field displays summary information for all records in the found set. The grand summary part can be at the beginning (leading) or end (trailing) of the report, depending on its placement on the layout. You can have only one leading grand summary and one trailing grand summary in a layout.

If you put another type of field in this part, FileMaker Pro displays data from the first record (leading) or last record (trailing) being browsed.
