Liz Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 In our product database we are using a sliding field to accomodate the descriptions. When we go to print everything looks fine, even in print preview. When it prints the last line of text on SOME items are cut in half, almost like the field is not big enough. It does not happen on every entry, but it happens on multiple printers and when creating a PDF. I have tried changing the default field size, changing font, leaving more space between this field and the next and nothing is working. If anyone can provide any ideas or suggestions I would appreciate it.
-Queue- Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 How is your text aligned? Use Left and Top for best results. If you still have problems, try making the body (or whatever part holds the field) slightly deeper.
Liz Posted August 6, 2003 Author Posted August 6, 2003 Thanks for the suggestions. I checked all of these and the text was aligned. I ended up changing to a completely different font and it solved the problem. Thanks for your help
Gupangam Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 I have a similar problem in printing of long text in text block that stretches down and across multiple pages (say a 4 page letter). I have to design the layout with non-printing markers to show where not to type in (near page breaks) otherwise contents of any line which is too close to the page break may get printed partial top on one page and partial bottom on the next. Is there a way around ? The clean page split happens automatically in a word processor.
Gupangam Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 My apologies. I found the answer by BobWeaver later on. Many thanks.
Newbies Ken278 Posted December 4, 2003 Newbies Posted December 4, 2003 The Filemaker website knowledge base contains a 2001 article (no. 104111) about this, called "Text Splitting Across Page Breaks: The Official Response". The article describes a hidden procedure for avoiding text splitting in versions before 5.0. According to the article, the problem was supposedly resolved in 5.0, but that wasn't the case at all, it hasn't changed in any way. Essentially, the existing text tools in Filemaker cannot do what a word processor can do, that is, automatically insert page breaks at the end of every page of text.
BeckhamTX Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 I am having the same issue with Filemaker 6. I have a block of text that spans over parts of two pages. Where the page breaks is different for each document printed because of a subsummary part at the top of the page that could be one or more lines. Sometimes it prints a line of text cut in half at the bottom of one page and top of the other; sometimes it prints the last full line of text at the bottom of page 1 and repeats the same line at the top of page 2. Any ideas since FM thinks this problem was fixed in FM 5?
