This is a very simple question.

How do I make a dotted line (----) in filemaker?

There are a lot of fancy possibilities but no such thing as a simple dotted line (using text to type it which I thought of as an alternative takes up to much width in my layout).

I tried the little dots, but they end up in two lines when printing.

Anybody got a solution?

Thank you for reading and eventually answering this question.

Use the fill patterns for the line. Third row seems to be the closest for me.

Michele,

The best way to do this is to create some layout text, then set a leader tab using a dot (period) or dash (hyphen) as the leader fill character. You will be able to specify the position of the tab accurately and the leader character will adjust to the specified length to accommodate font imaging variations.

To set a leader tab, first create your layout text object (with some dummy text to begin with) and position and size it , then right-click it (control-click on MacOS) to bring up the contextual menu and choose 'Text Format...'. In the resulting dialog, click the button at the lower left labelled 'Paragraph...' and in the Paragraph dialog, click the button at the lower left labelled 'Tabs...'.

In the Tabs dialog, enter a Position (meansurement from the left of the text object) and Fill Character (eg dot or dash) into the boxes at the right, then click on the 'set' button near the lower left. Then click 'OK' to dismiss the dialog and type a tab into your text object and you should have a nicely controlled row of leader characters. wink.gif
