richshone Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 Is there a way to permanently format fields so that even when I copy and paste some text from another program/document/e-mail it keeps the font/size I have defined instead of carrying the formatting over from the other application? I recall this being possible but I cannot find where to define it. thanks for any help...
Lee Smith Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 Paste without style. On a Mac it is Cmd+Opt+V. There is also a Button in the Paste script step by the same name HTH Lee
richshone Posted September 3, 2003 Author Posted September 3, 2003 thanks dude, that helps me greatly... at least in the sense of how I do my work now. It didn't really answer the question about Filemaker features, but in a way it is better since I assume this is a MAC system wide key command that I didn't know about. I love key commands and try to use the mouse as little as possible. This one will be really helpful.
Lee Smith Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 Sorry if I didn't actually answer your question about FileMaker Features Direct enough. The answer is No, FileMaker will not prevent the inadvertently pasting of styled text. That is why I explained how to paste without style. Hi Lee! Could you elaborate on this? Did you mean that there's a way to act on styles through the Replace step?
Lee Smith Posted September 4, 2003 Posted September 4, 2003 The replace function can be done in two ways, one is manually through the Menu - Records - Replace (Cmd equal on a Mac) and the second is by using the Script step Replace. Because Replace is a calculation, it will strips all text formatting. Using the Menu method, be sure to put your cursor in the field you want to strip before going to Replace. In the Replace Menu, you want to use the Replace with Calculated Result Step (button at the bottom) and in the calculation box you only need to select the Field your cursor is in, Click Okay and Then Replace. It is important to note that it is nonreversible function, so be sure you have entered the fields properly and I recommend you use a copy or make a backup of the file. The Script Step is about the same except you can choose the two fields instead of needing to click into the field first. HTH Lee
