September 19, 200322 yr Hi all, Within the same file, when switching from layouts to layouts, I'd like to have some layouts opened at 6,5 inches x 3,5 inches, and some others opened at 8,5 inches x 6 inches. And centered on screen. Is this possible without a Plug-In ? I have a demo of MoveWindow, but doubt it could do the trick. Thanks.
September 19, 200322 yr Hi Ugo, AFAIK, native FileMaker will only Toggle Window - Zoom to the Left and the Top of an open window. It will restrain itself to the size of the further most right part of any item, and the same with the bottom most item (not in a list view) of the layout. If you put your objects in the center of a layout, and draw a box around it, FM will still show everything above and to the left of your centered box, leaving your items in the middle partly exposed. It would be nice if it would center and collapse the window around your Middle objects instead. I don't know if there is a plugin that will do this, others will have to jump in here. HTH Lee
September 20, 200322 yr Author Lee, Thanks for the information. MoveWindow appears to be doing what I need. I've tested it using the demo I had, and except some flashing, it does the trick. Does anyone know if the new version (if there is) offers some significant changes, or if there are other plug-ins for this ?
September 21, 200322 yr Hi Ugo, WindowUtility is also worth considering. Most functions in WindowUtility are x-plat but some are restricted to Windows. I don't recall what os you use, but you can do a search on Forum for WindowUtility to find lots of discussions about it. WindowUtility by PracticeMaker I use Windows and find WindowUtility easy to use. I can set the desired size of a db window and restrict Users from maximizing - and even move the windows via script! Almost total control! And it's great fun too! Cheers, LaRetta
September 21, 200322 yr Also, in Windows anyway ... Draw the window the size you wish and place it where you want it. Place a small transparent rectangle in the bottom right corner of your viewable window. Then add to your startup script - Set Zoom [100%], Toggle Window [Zoom] then exit. When it opens, it will always be this size. However, Users can still change it by maximizing, etc. But it will always open to this position. But layout to layout size can not be controlled this way. They will all open the same size. Total control can only be achieved using a plug-in. LaRetta
September 21, 200322 yr Author Thanks, I've downloaded their demo. I've never developed multiple windows solutions, but will investigate their Plug, as it seems to be powerful. For those Mac users not concerned by the cross-platform, but concerned by the price of a plug-in, Applescript could also solve the situation I described. Check this file by Ken Edwards
