What are the major differences in running an application with FMS or in multi-user in FMP?

I'm thinking of running the application in FMP as multi-user vice FMS.

Of course one problem is I get an error when I open it up in FMP on the server for some reason. I don't get the error when I open it on another machine in FMP. It is an OLE error. Strange.

Security, Stability and Performance.

Performance and Stability in FMP maxes out at about 5 users, plus if anything happens to the "host" machine, you have just insured corrupted data. Additionally the desktop OS that run FMP are not designed for server-type apps.

You are just asking for trouble by NOT going with FMS. Please do remember that FMS does not really require an uber-power server to run on. Do not look into a $10,000 server. Get a $2500 machine capable of running Linux, WinNT/Win2K or Mac OS X.

The automatic backup is justification enough for many people. Depending on your needs, you could get a $300 iMac on ebay and it would be a decent server. Let's say you spend $1000 on a computer + $1000 on FM Server. Is your data worth $2000?

It is already on a FMS. I was just wondering if there was any reason TO run it there vice on FMP.

I already get enough corrupted data without adding to the problem. So I will stick with FMS I guess.
