Shari Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Hello, I'm a bit confused. I set up a group with a default password so the user does not have to enter the password all the time. I have a separate password that allows for all access. When I access the system it does not prompt me for a password. How will the system know what users are which? Any help is appricated. Shari
-Queue- Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Press and hold Shift when opening the dbs, and you will prompted for a password.
Shari Posted October 13, 2003 Author Posted October 13, 2003 So I need to tell my user's to press and hold the shift? How can I handle restrictions on related files? Do they need to enter a password for each file they go into from the main menu? I would like to have only one password they enter when they log-in, but it would effect all the files they view. Thanks, Shari
Vaughan Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 You misunderstand how the groups work. The Groups feature in Access Privilegesallows you to assign access to different layouts or fields to different passwords. Groups does not automatically enter passwords: use the Default Password option in the Document Preferences to do that, but notw you can only assign one default password. To answer some of your question, when one FMP file opens another file it'll try the same password it was opened with. So as along as all the files have the same passwords defined the user sould only ever have to type a password once.
Shari Posted October 14, 2003 Author Posted October 14, 2003 All the files have the same password and access privelages. However, when I open the first file I am prompted for a password. The user cannot go to layout mode. When I click on another file that I have a script to open it does not prompt for a password, which is good. But I can access the layout mode which should not be allowed per the privilages assigned by the password. I must be doing something wrong. Can you help.
Vaughan Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 It sounds like the passwords are not set up the same in each file. Passwords live in each file independently, so you have to be careful when setting them up that they are exactly the same. Savvy developers start each new project with a template file that has all the standard administrative fields, scripts, passwords and layouts already defined. This not only speeds up development it makes for more consistency and reduces problems like this.
