changing names within value list

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a db called bills to pay which uses a value list of all the suppliers we use. One of these suppliers has changed its name from AB Garage to AB Motor Group. If I change the name in the value list doing a search for AB garage will return no records, so how do I change the name so that I can find both AB Garage and AB Motor Group without having to do a duel search for both names

Many thanks

Easiest solution would be to change all occurrences of "AB Garage" to "AB Motor Group" and drop AB Garage from your Value List, completely. In case your memory is bad, you could always add a memo about the name change to the Suppliers record for AB Motor Group.

You could change the value list to use values from the supplier field, that would show both.

You could change it to just "AB."

You could change it to the new name, but format the field as a popup list, rather than a menu, so that the list pops up, but you can still Esc and type directly in the field when you want to search for say, "AB G."

You could use the fine suggestion above, unless for some reason you need to keep the original name on your old bills.

I was hopeing not to have to do that as there is about 250 bills from AB Garage that I would have to change by hand. I was hopeing for a better way.........another cup of coffee I think

It's quick and easy to do a find for "AB Garage" and then do a single replace to change all the occurrences at once.
