Hi Chetgeo,

I couldn't imagine a solution without scripts. They give the Developer power and control over the entire process. They also allow automation of regular activities.

For instance ...

If it was up to the User to find records that haven't been invoiced and invoice them, they may do it right - and then again they may make a mistake. They would need to find all records with a blank DateInvoiced field. And if they goof up, it could re-invoice your entire database! Scripting this (the Developer finds all uninvoiced records first) automates the process and eliminates possible User error.

There are thousands of examples of why scripts are a necessity. Do you have a specific question in mind? What might you want to do that you are in doubt whether you need a script or not? wink.gif

Maybe it's connected: I have a feeling, that may be entirely wrong of course, that scripts should be approached with some reluctance. 'If it's not necessary, don't script' or something.

I think scripting already is a part of FM. It help developer to control the entire system. Without scripting, you only can do limited function. Right now i still never see any FM system without scripting.

Thanks for your responses, but i was a little too vague with my ?..I cannot begin to tell you how many hours of scripting i have under my belt, but my questions, rephrased, is; What advantage does Developer have over FileMaker pro when it comes to scripting.

Thanks

"What advantage does Developer have over FileMaker pro..."

IMHO the design report and debugging are all features that are easy to do without.

The *real* reason to get Developer is the Developer TOOL which allows renaming of files, kiosk mode, and creation of stand-alone runtimes.
