Henry Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 Hi there, just want to know can i insert icon to fm layout? I had try insert picture or insert object, but cannot. Because now i need to use some icon as button, i saw some fm application also use that kind of icon, either xp compatible or mac compatible icon. Another question is can somebody recommend some website/company which provide the icon design services, i only know one of them is Icon Factory. And finally, what kind of tools you all use to design the mac look button? I'm using windows, so please let me know about the windows tools. Thank you Regards, Henry
BobWeaver Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 If you mean the "Aqua" type buttons that are used on Mac OSX, there is a discussion of where to find these on the internet in the Right Brain forum. If you paste any kind of graphic onto a layout, you can select it and then, in the format menu, select "Button..." to make it behave as a button. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you were asking. Hope it helps a bit.
Henry Posted November 24, 2003 Author Posted November 24, 2003 Thanks for give me some idea. What i mean is I totally can't paste the icon file onto a layout. If can paste onto a layout, then i know how to set it as button. The format is .ico(icon format). Regards, henry
Ano Nimus Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 To insert an icon: Layout mode - Insert - Object - Create from file - browse to your .ico - highlight it - open - OK. Now it is on your layout. Right-click on it to specify how it should look and what it should do. Alternatively: in the windows explorer browse to your .ico - highlight it - right-click - copy. Then go in your layout - right-click - paste package - there it is. Is that what you mean? Ano
Henry Posted November 26, 2003 Author Posted November 26, 2003 i have try it, but can't. It will display out the name of the icon. if the icon name myicon.ico, then after i insert, below the picture, it will display out the icon name. Like this [Picture] myicon.ico Regards, Henry
Ano Nimus Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Ah yes, it does the same for me. Such strange behaviour Guess one could work around that by capturing the .ico and turn it into a graphic file of some sort with 'your favorite art package' (I like Paint Shop Pro, but there must be loads of them out there), brush out/paint over the offending lettering and then use the remaining image as a button. Not very elegant, I guess
Henry Posted November 26, 2003 Author Posted November 26, 2003 ok, i will try it. And the other question is which picture format can made the background become transparent. Because i found that most of them cannot be transparent. Regards, Henry
ESpringer Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 Henry, I have not an answer exactly, but a three-cheers for your question. Certain graphics that I generate in Microsoft Word somehow DO preserve transparency of background (only if they have a color assigned to the outline of the shape, not just to the fill). But I have had no luck with transparency from graphics programs designed to work with gifs etc. I've long wondered why this is...
ESpringer Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 On transparency: I just did a search and found this thread . Best of luck!
