Dave_G Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 Hello, I'm pretty new to Filemaker Scripting. I have created a database solution for affiliate marketers that I have compiled into a runtime solution. As I add features, my customers will need to upgrade the .USR file. Any idea how I could build an "Update to current version" script that would pull the records out of the old file and into the new one? I'm using FM 5 Developer. Thank you!
Vaughan Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 You need to use scripted exports and imports. This is one of the disadvantages of having the data and interface in the same file.
Dave_G Posted November 26, 2003 Author Posted November 26, 2003 I am still at a point that the program can be changed... Can anyone help me on creating a seperate data file? I've never built a DB like that, and if someone could provide some pointers, It'd be greatly appreciated!
Kundinger Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Hi Dave, Take a look at the discussion about updating solutions: <<< http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat.php?Number=43921 >>> I put some ideas at the end of that post... you may find helpful. Good Luck! Bob Kundinger [email protected]
Kundinger Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Hi again Dave, Here is a link to a discussion on separating data and interface... <<< http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat.php?Number=46858 >>> I added my two-cents about this topic... hope it helps. Dave_G Posted November 26, 2003 Author Posted November 26, 2003 Thanks Bob! I guess I'll just have to sit and play with it. I've used FM Pro for a while now, but I'm just getting started on lookups and portals. I tried some things last night and could not get it to work the way I wanted it to, I'm sure I'm just doing something wrong. Are you for hire?
Kundinger Posted November 27, 2003 Posted November 27, 2003 Hi Dave, Yes, I am for hire... all the time... anytime... anywhere! "Have Technology... will Travel" In fact, the majority of my business is travel away from my home. I do make it to the KC area once or twice a year... I have family in the Des Moines-KC-Omaha area. Also... stop there on my way to Texas to visit family. Keep in Touch! Bob Kundinger [email protected]
