filemaker and terminal server

Featured Replies

is anyone using Terminal Server to look up FileMaker 5.5 files? We are having an issue where someone using Terminal Server to access our network cannot open a file that is open by someone within the office. Nor could someone in the office open a FileMaker file that is open by someone using Terminal Server to open the file. Please provide some insight... cheers!

We use Terminal Services. However, we use FM Server on a dedicated computer. All works fine smile.gif

Good Luck.

Is the FMP file set to multi-user? The FMP files shouldn't be on a network volume but on a FM Host (the setup that Garry was implying he uses).

yes they are set to multi-user, and thanks for the insight Garry. cheers!

Also you need VLA FM license...

will that let me promote a multi-user environment over terminal server with our existing setup? (not having filemaker server on a separate machine)

Yes. But, you must have a dedicated FileMaker host that is not on the Terminal Services box. It does not matter if the FM host is running FM Server or FM Pro. The TS users and the regular users will all see the FileMaker host in their "Open Hosts" dialog. However, be careful about connecting too many users, as FM Pro (as opposed to FM Server) can only support roughly 10 or so users. There is a calculation to figure it out (it depends on the number of hosted files), but I can't remember it off hand.
