Select a record in portal !

Featured Replies

Hi ALl,

I want to select a row in portal and go to the related file based on content of portal row selected using a button? Somebody has an idea about it?

Thanks

Check out the Go To Related Record script step (left side under Navigation). You probably want to check the box "Show Only Related Records"

And then create a button small enough to fit inside the portal (it will appear on every line of the portal), and then attach your script to it.

Oh let me check to see but from portal how can we make relationship . I think

we make relationship from main file not from portal right? ... Do you have an example that I can see. It would be nice.

The portal already works *through* a relationship. If you go into layout mode, the name of the relationship that a portal uses will be right there at the bottom of the portal.

The simplest solution is: just use the button tool in your layout area (the one with the hand pointing) and draw a button directly onto your portal row. FileMaker will immediately ask you to "specify button". Choose the item that probably appears about at the bottom of the visible list: Go To Related Record.

FM knows that the relationship you want to use is whatever relationship the portal was built with...

Oh, I almost forgot to include a tip I use often: the "hyperlink look"... You don't actually have to draw a separate button at all. You can get the text that's already in your portal row to serve as the button. Just select the best "identifier" field for the row and use Format menu > Button to assign "Go To Related Record" to that item.

It's useful to color it blue and give it an underline, also. Everyone recognizes that as a web-like link...

Hi Anh

I looked for a simple example file that I could refer you to but couldn't find one that didn't envolved a lot of extra stuff. So, here is a quick, down and dirty, example of the principals.
