dchuhta1 Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 I am trying to link pop-up menu value-lists. For example, if in the first field, "Color" I chose "Red," the menu for the field "Fruit," would only show a value list called "RedFruit." If a different color was chosen, a different subsequent menu would appear.
ESpringer Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Hi dchuhta, You need only post your question once; we all see what's going on in the various forums. Do a search for "conditional value lists" and you'll get *lots* of information, and some sample files, on how to do this... Basically, you're going to make the value you choose in the first field serve as a relational key ("left-hand key") to the "fruits.fp5" file where the color of the fruit serves as the right-hand key. Then make a value list for the second field, choosing "Show Related Values Only" and choosing that new relation, so the list will effectively filter the fruit values based on the color value...
-Queue- Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Please don't double post. If you are running FM 5 (I believe) or above, check the FM Help file under the keyword 'subset'.
dchuhta1 Posted January 13, 2004 Author Posted January 13, 2004 Ok.. you lost me. Let's get real so that I'm no longer talking about fruit, I'm talking about what I really want to make. I'm a teacher, and I'm trying to develop a way to track student grades on assessments. When I choose the "Discipline" menu (say I select Science from that menu) I want the Assessment menu to then only show the what I have defined as the science assessments. How would I go about doing this? What value lists do I have to assign to what? What do I have to create first? I've followed the instructions for subsets in FM help, but it doesn't seem to do the trick. You lost me on the left-hand, right-hand thing too. I guess I'm a very novice user. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.
