May 26, 200421 yr Hello all, Can any one help me with these two printing / layout problems please. I have a policy file of around 100 policies. Each policy is printed on a layout up to 3 pages long. The layout has a header and a footer: 1. When printed, the Preview does not show which lines actually end up on which page - I believe that this is because of the header and footer. Is there a way around this to enable to user to obtain wysiwyg ? 2. Some policies are being printed so that the last line on a page has its top half on one page but its bottom half on the next page. - Although not happening on all policies, I would like to stop this possibility, and have spend hours with measurements and trying various work arounds with highlights etc to stop users using the likely bottom & top lines but this is not reliable. Look forward to hearing from anyone who can help. Regards CJ.
May 26, 200421 yr Is 'Allow part to break across page boundaries' checked in the part definition for the body?
May 26, 200421 yr Author Hi Queue, Thanks for comming in on this one. The answer is no the body is not set to break across page boundaries - should it be ? It is only set to "page break before each occurance"
May 26, 200421 yr No, it shouldn't be. I was just curious if that was the problem. Can you attach a copy of the file?
May 26, 200421 yr Author Have now done it a different way and requested a page break AFTER every one occurrance and have allowed the page to break across page boundaries. I presume that this will avoid the half lines on each page - Thank you. However, it doesn't improve the lack of wysiwyg in preview mode though. If you have the time to help further, do you have any ideas on this point ? Regards CJ
May 26, 200421 yr On Windows I don't believe there is a good wysiwyg for FileMaker. It's usually a matter of trial and error, unfortunately.
May 26, 200421 yr Author Hello again Queue, I can attach a copy of the file if you wish but I don't want to use up your time unnecessarily. The way I have now approached the problem (For the text body - which also includes my policy titles : page break AFTER every one occurrance and allowing the page to break across page boundaries, but NOT discarding the remaining section of the part) appears to be working OK. The important thing is that I get a header at the top of each page and that every new policy starts at the top of a new page rather than immediately after the one before, perhaps half way down a page. This still appears to be the case which is good. However, I now have the text body being granted permission to break across pages as well. - Can you see any problems with allowing the part to break as per above ? look forward to hearing from you Regards CJ.
May 26, 200421 yr As long as the report is working for you, I won't unnecessarily intervene. I don't foresee any problem with the break, as long as it doesn't break where you least expect (or desire) it. And if that does turn out to be the case, then feel free to post the file for more in-depth examination.
May 27, 200421 yr Author Hi Queue, Sorry, no offence intended! - very grateful for your help. I attach the file (as ammended) if you can have a quick look. Any of the text layouts should present the problem, The file is one of a 40 file solution but I don't think the lack of relationships will affect how this matter pans out. Thanks again CJ. PRes.zip
June 8, 200421 yr Author No, all appears well. A simple problem solved! I still can't believe how much time I wasted on this. many thanks for your help Queue. Regards CJ
