Initial Row setting in FM7 Portal Setup

Featured Replies

Does anyone have an example or quick explanation for the Initial row setting in FM7 portal setup. I can't think of a reason why you would want to permanently filter the initial rows of portal. I can see if you can set this variable on the fly via a design function it would be helpfull in some cases to reduce the portal size.

Just curious

I believe you can control it on the fly, so that's one reason to have it. Another might be for a calendar, or anywhere you want a "horizontal portal," an effect you can now achieve by laying out a series of portals, each starting on a different row.

I used it in the FMPug database to show members who attended the selected month's meeting.

I did not want to have a scrolling portal, nor a portal that extended further down the page than was initially viewable.

So I added 3 portals side by side with 10 rows. The first portal is initial row 1, second is 11 and third is 21.

See attached image for example.

I could have sworn I saw a demo in the late development phase of 7 where the initial row was changed on the fly... now I can't see any indication that this is possible. Anybody know?

I was hoping to develop a layout where only 3 portal rows would be shown, with no scroll bar, but with buttons up and down to change the initial row.
