Newbies Dougy Posted June 21, 2004 Newbies Posted June 21, 2004 Just wondering if anyone had bought the new version of Filemaker Mobile 7 and if anyone knew whether it's as bad as Filemaker Mobile 2 was or is it this time a proper DB app for the Palm ? Thanks
Kurt Knippel Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 While I have not seen the new version, my understanding was that it is basically a modified version of Mobile 2, made to work with Filemaker 7. I would not expect any huge feature enhancements.
Fitch Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 In particular, it still won't sync with a hosted file, it has to be "on the desktop." http://www.filemaker.com/products/mbl_whatsnew.html
Newbies Dougy Posted June 22, 2004 Author Newbies Posted June 22, 2004 Sadly , that's what I thought . Looks like Apple/Filemaker doesn't really believe in PDA's. Stange. Anyway, thanks for the replies Will stick with HandBase as it does exactly what Filemaker Mobile should do
Brewser Posted June 26, 2004 Posted June 26, 2004 Can you sync files to HandBase or SprintDB with Filemaker 7? I know you can with Access, but I am not sure about Filemaker. If you can than there is no reason to spend the $70.
Newbies Prejagnant Posted July 6, 2004 Newbies Posted July 6, 2004 Can't get Filemaker Mobile 7 to work in Win XP Pro & Palm Tungsten C, despite re-installation of both FMP 7 and FM Mobile 7 ... HotSync log message reads "Unable to open database. Make sure the database exists on the desktop and privileges are properly configured." Settings checked multiple times ... O joy, o rupture ... nothing in user guide and FAQs has helped - anyone cracked this?
Newbies MRT Posted July 6, 2004 Newbies Posted July 6, 2004 I am having problems getting FM Mobile 7 to work with my Tungsten C and laptop (WIN XP Pro). The app installs on the pda and laptop, but I cant get a user to show up on the laptop's FM Mobile consile app. I cant get any db's onto the Palm. Ive uninstalled and installed. Theres nothing on the support site regarding the installation problems with FM7 Mobile, so I guess no one has had a problem except us. MRT
Kurt Knippel Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 I have been unable to get it working either. The following came from another FMForums member at WWDC: FIleMaker Mobile | Mobile Settings | Synchronization | Actions -- Specify Actions | Before Synchronization | Log in using... | Specify Account Name and Password -- then enter my account and password here
Newbies elena Posted July 19, 2004 Newbies Posted July 19, 2004 i don't know if this helps but i had the following adventures loading FMPM7 using windows xp pro and a Palm Zire 71 PDA. after numerous false starts i finally got the mobile software installed sucessfully and loaded on the palm, and got the palm hot syncing with my desktop. however when i cranked up the FMPM7 application and attempted to use the SETTINGS function to configure the database, i kept getting the message that i did not have access privileges. I made sure i had an account on the database with full access with the same name as the account on the palm - no password - no luck. Of course the database had to be closed as well. After tinkering for a while i discovered that if i have the same-name account set up as the default long-in for the database (on the database, setting the File Options when opening the databse to automatically log-in using this account) AND making sure the account has the default Full Access privileges - not any other privilege set, even though the privileges were the identical - THEN i can get into the SETTINGS and start configuring the fields etc. for the Palm. Although i still haven't gotten any fields to load to the palm, hehehe. ok i am an amateur, granted, no developer. hope this information helps someone somewhere.
SpudMan Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 If the database shows up on the Palm but has now fields. Go into FMM and settings, Specify Fields (default is 0 fields), select fields to move to the Palm and arrange the order that you want them to appear. Also, this is where you will adjust the actions of the fields (e.g. Drop List, Drop Menu, Single Check Box, or Comment). If you are not seeing the database on your Palm, make sure the file you are trying to sync is located on the Desktop. FMM7 will not work with files in any other location. This was not a limitation of previous versions. Hope they get if fixed soon. Good Luck
Newbies neuronbob Posted September 6, 2004 Newbies Posted September 6, 2004 I came here hoping to find good news about FM Mobile 7. For the last five years I've used used FM Pro 5.x with FMSync and JFile on my various Palm devices for medical information on my patients. I briefly tried FM Mobile 2 and found it a piece of crap and a total waste of my money. I have been contemplating upgrading to FM Pro 7, but FMSync is incompatible and its developer is too busy to recompile it . (Wish I knew how!) It is so disappointing to find that FM Mobile 7 appears to be just as bad as version 2. I need a more flexible database that is easy and rapid to search on my Palm, and has a conduit compatible with OS X. Are there any other options?
clifford Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 i bought a palm zire 72 and fm mobile 7 last week. after tinkering with the access privilege, i was able to get everything working, like hot sync, field settings, login from handheld, etc. i installed fm mobile 7 on win xp pro notebook computer. fm mobile 7 is crippled in the following areas:- 1) doesn't support related fields 2) must have design privilege in order to do field settings 3) runtime db access setting doesn't mirror into fm mobile 7, i.e. when i login with a read only privilege, the data in the palm can still be edited and one can create new record and delete record in the palm database. 4) doesn't support remote database, which essentially defeat the purpose of being mobile in the first place since you can't sync with remote db. 5) doesn't support compound find function 6) doesn't support compound omit function 7) expensive compared to other palm db software
