Newbies CCMeeks Posted June 25, 2004 Newbies Posted June 25, 2004 I'm new and found this forum. It's been a great help these last few months but now I need help. Let me tell you what I need done and I'm hoping someone will walk me through creating a script file. I work for a security company. When our officers call in for a case number, our dispatchers enter the info into the database. Then issue a number to them like 04567. The problem is that when they start, they check the database for the last used number and then just remember the next number when ready to issue it. Numbers are getting duplicated through out the night. What I would like to do is put the next available number on the page so our dispatchers will know exactly what the next number is. I have know idea if I am making sense but hopefully someone would like to help this newbie.
Lee Smith Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Hi CC, and welcome to the Forum. Question: At what point is the number needed? Are they entering the information directly into a Database, or picking a number from a list of available numbers, and then writting a reports by hand that are later entered into a database. If they are entering directly into a database and need the serial number as you are creating the record, look at the Auto Enter Data availabe as an option to Number fields. HTH Lee
Newbies CCMeeks Posted June 25, 2004 Author Newbies Posted June 25, 2004 Yes. They are entering directly into the database. The officer will radio in the information and request the number. The dispatcher enters it in the database and gives the next number from memory or goes back to the last record to remember it.
Lee Smith Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 So, if you had a Serial Number Field at the top of your form, when a New Record is created, the next number whould show there. Lee
