I'm having a problem..... I'm running a solution that has 15-20 databases linked together through scripts, relationship,etc....While I'm developing I keep 3 or 4 copies of the databases store in the computer in order to have a way to come back if I obtain an undesired result from a change.... my problem is that FM tries to be "helpfull" by remembering location of a database and when I change something it goes to them automatically.......so I work for hours in the solution, and when I upload the files to the fm server, the changes do not work correctly because the changes were not made where they should have...... maybe this example might help explain my problem:

In my computer I have 3 folders (a,b,c) which each contain a copy of the 10 databases (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10).... which mean that there are 3 number 1 databases (a1,b1,c1) in the computer... I work and make changes in the databases saved in folder b... make changes and add new items in the database b3, but the program doesn't always make the changes there.... it goes and make the changes in a3 or c3.... it also goes the other folders to get information for external scripts :-(...... so when I put the databases from folder b in the server it doesn't work as specified because it didn't record all the changes....... also if a make a change to the live database (or if I simple open it to check something out, when I get out (log off the server and try to work with the files in the pc), it goes and talks to the server and open THOSE files :-( :-( ..... it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I realize that it was acting that way, so now if I work in the pc, I have to send the other copies to a memory stick and only have on set of file in the pc at any given time, and if I work with files on the server and have to go back to the pc files, I have to unplug the computer from the network :-(........ anybody know how to overcome this "helpfullness)

Yeah, FM tries to be helpful and fails. I find this feature creates more problems than it solves, and it's largely cleared up in FM7. What i frequently do is when i want to inactivate a set of files, i'll just rename them with a new extension (i use .gpm for my initials, .old will work too) from a command line. This seems to do the trick, because FM will not look for files with the same name but a different extension.

I would zip all files that you're not currently using and delete the originals. Then never ever have more than one file with the same name available on your network simultaneously.
