Accessing DataBase over Internet

Hi, I only started using FM about 2 weeks ago. I have made a really simple DB to track project info.

My question is... Can I view this info online?

I have tried Instant Web Publishing, and this is great over a LAN, but I need to access it from any web-enabled machine. I have used ports 591 and 8080 but when I have my DB open on my machine, a colleague in another office cannot open it in internet explorer.

Please help as I promised my boss I would have it working inside a month and only have 2 weeks to go.

Thanks

Hi, Wall! I think the problem has to do with your network configuration. Ideally, when you web publish from FileMaker, you have a static IP address for your server that is accessible from anywhere on the internet. If you static IP looks like 192.168.x.x, then this is an internal-use only IP address that has been designated as such internationally for internal networks only. If your network's router can be configured for port forwarding, you would have to tell it which 192.168.x.x node to send all :80, :8080, or :591 traffic to. You would then access your db using the router's IP address, not the local 192.168.x.x one.

I think you can go to http://www.whatismyipaddress.com from the local 192.168.x.x server to see what the router's IP address is (I think).

Of course, it could be something else, though, but that's my guess based on your short description.
