July 21, 200421 yr I had a website running smoothly interfacing htm pages and FMK 6 databases using CDML I've upgraded to 7, and now I get a message that "The requested file was not found at this location. /FMPro", with a 404 error. I've checked that the htm file is in the web folder (and it is). I've checked that the database is open, with IWP enabled (and it is). I was reading in the manual for FMKR 7, and it says " The URL syntax for linking to a particular database is different than FileMaker Pro 6 and earlier, so you must update the link after converting the file". Those instructions don't really tell me what I'm supposed to do. The CDML coding has references to fp5, which worked in version 6. I changed the coding to fp7, but it still didnt' work. If someone has some wisdom...the URL is:http://www.chilcotin.bc.ca:591/cecom.htm Try to follow links to products or services...they used to work! Many, many thanks...
July 21, 200421 yr Author Oh dear...Yipees...My client upgraded and I didn't really have much input. Ok...my next question...can I save the converted files back to 6? I didn't think you could. Otherwise, I can retrieve older versions from my back-up and get the site up again.
July 21, 200421 yr No, 7 files cannot be de-converted. Thank goodness you have backups of your version 6 files.
July 21, 200421 yr Author Yup...been stained too many times not to do meticulous backups. Thanks for the help! Cheers...
July 27, 200421 yr OK... I was aware of the discontinued CDML support. However, I can't seem to find any "easy" instructions on how one might convert to using XML. I don't know XML, and don't really want to study a whole new language to start mapping out conversions. Anyone know of some doc that describes the process? Sort of a step by step difference between using the two? (I've got nearly 100 different CDML pages running on FM5.5 databases)
July 27, 200421 yr Filemaker have an XML area on their web-site. It has documents about converting. However, you need to purchase FM7 Server Advanced This is even to do some development and testing! FM7 is a massive step backwards in Web Publishing!!! All the best. Garry
