rex Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 We want to put an existing FMP5 database on to a CDrom as a read-only file, as part of a educational program and distribute it to about 1000 people. Am I right in suggesting that FM developer7 is the correct program to use? It is a simple database with no add-ons or relationships. It is intended for reading by windows only. Will it open and be read from the CDrom without downloading? Is this a legal use? Rex
SteveB Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 You have a number of problems here: FM Version 7 will not work with FM5 files without first converting to the new file structure. The second issue is that it needs to be a runtime, since the users will most likely not have FM installed as an application on their PCs. The last issue is that I believe that you can't open a runtime on a read-only device (the CDRom)...it would have to be installed on the hard drive, in which case you probably should use an installer to to it right. Ano Nimus Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 I think it actually is possible to run a runtime from a CD. See this discussion: http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat...true#Post104969
CoZiMan Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 You just can not have any single variable/field have any change in value. You would think that globals would be stored in memory, but noooo. Although I've built a workaround for my distribution files that install, etc. The only file I install has minimum data and fields then references the cd for all other info. Works for me. Data is 200mb+
