Mabou Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Hi all, This is probably a dumb question but I have a database that I created to streamline my bid process for video projects. The database is fairly large and I currently have more than 250 fields. This number will soon go up to about 350 separate fields. I have a few quick questions: 1)-- are there any tricks to finding out which fields are not being used at all (so I can toss them out). I have tried making the database report (I have FMPro 5.5 Dev). But that interface is SO horrible that I cant help but hope that there is a better way to find the unused fields. 2)--are there any tricks to better organize or group fields? (In a perfect world, you would tell me that I can make bins within the "Define Fields" window and drag groups of fields into those bins....oh my goodness that would be a convenient thing). Thanks, Matt
Kurt Knippel Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 Get MetaDataMagic from New Millenium Communications...it will do all that stuff and more.
bruceR Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 You need a basic understanding of relational design much more than you need MDM. You haven't really described what all those fields do but it is very likely you need 25 or maybe 50 fields, not 350.
