How to detect what changes have been made in a db

Featured Replies

Hi

This may be asking too much... :-)

I would like to be able to somehow find out what has changed in a particular filemaker database over a period of time, for example one day (assuming the field definitions have remained unchanged)

I know I can set each record to contain a "date last modified" field, but

this does not tell me which aspects of that record have changed.

Is there any way of doing this short of doing a full export and comparing

the csv files ?

Thank you !

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

This topic comes up from time to time. A search of "All" Forum for the keywords of Audit or Field Modification Tracking should provide an abundance of reading. In the meantime, start with this recent thread.

Thanks Lee, the link was very useful !

However what I had in mind originally (although I didn't say it clearly enough!) was if I have 2 *separate* files, both called contacts.fp5, say,

and they are in effect the same database except that one is a day older

than the other, THEN would it be possible to compare the contents of

the two databases ? ie I would like to compare a backup copy of the

database to the live copy.

I think what you are asking now is how to synchronize two (2) databases. If so, do a search for "synchronize" and you will find a few treads on this subject.
