Importing a dbf database

Featured Replies

I need to import a .dbf file into FileMaker 6. (?) Can't. I can't even see it. So I tried opening the file in excel. It came in all funny. The info was all there but it was "staggered". Any ideas would be helpful.

Show dBase files (*.dbf).

If you can't import a .dbf field in FM and can't view it correctly in Excel (both of which support the .dbf format), I'd question the integrity of the file itself. Best guess is that the file isn't good or isn't really .dbf.

I agree with LiveOak,

You need to go back to the source. My guess is that this is not really a DBF file, but some kind of proprietary file instead that was labeled as DBF.

I had a similar problem with ACT. They have a file labeled as .dbf but it really isn't a format that the rest of my programs can read.
