October 7, 200421 yr new here. I installed the filemaker developer and have some questions about it. When I open Developer, it looks exactly like FileMaker Pro. When should I use Developer? When I design a new DB for my company, do I do it in FM Pro or in Developer then transfer to Pro? I also tested the Developer Tool. Other than creating .exe file that we can show clients the design demo, what other purposes does it serve? I think the bottom line is that I am not quite sure the relations between Developer and Pro, and the purpose of using devloper regularly? Thanks
October 7, 200421 yr Developer is exactly the same as Pro, but with some stuff added: - script debugger - developer tools to create runtimes, rename files while updating internal references, ... - the Database Design Report creator The DDR and the Script Debugger are probably the most helpful of these. I also use file renaming frequently when working with in-house developers so as not to create any interference with live hosted files and our development files.
October 7, 200421 yr Author So I can use Developer to design and create db. And end users with Pro on their machine can still open/view/use the DB, correct? Thanks
October 7, 200421 yr Yes. But if you create a runtime file, your end users don't need to have FMP installed on their machines!
