Latest version of Web Services Connector - WSC?

Featured Replies

I'm having similar crashing problems as others, having just installed FM5.5 Unlimited on an XServe, running with WSC. FM seems to crash, lockup, etc. about once every other day.

I want to make sure I have the latest versions of the various components. FM5.5 Unlimited V5.5v2, Web Companion 5.5v4, and WSC 5.5v1.

Is there a later version of WSC?

Better yet... where would I get it? For the life of me, I can't find it on the FM site.

As a side note... is FM6 Unlimited really that much more stable than 5.5? I'll have to pay $400 for an upgrade. This, in addition to an upgrade to FM7 Server Advanced. (Which is the reason I moved 5.5 Unlimited to the Xserve -- planning for the eventual switch to FM7.)

Thanks!

Hi, I'm running Apache/WSC 5.5v1 on a G4 X-serve and it's totally stable. This machine doesn't run FMPro, but connects to an OS X 10.3/FMPro6 computer over the network.

We have another G4 desktop running OS X 10.2.8 server with FMpro6 and Apache/WSC on the same box and that's also absolutely solid.

I think FMPro 6 is a much safer than 5.5 on OSX. We run 5.5 on classic and that's pretty stable, too. I found that re-installing web companion solved a crash problem on one of the classic machines for me.

Thanks for the info Jeff,

I've not yet dedicated a separate machine for FM, was hoping the Dual G4 Xserve would have enough horsepower to both serve and run FM. (It's primary serving function is to serve up the FM databses.)

It sounds like, from the Xserve side, we've got the same setup... running WSC 5.5v1.

BTW... all of this is running from a freshly installed setup... New OSX Server, New 5.5 install, and new installs of the Web Companion update.

Again, thanks for the info... I'll keep investigating solutions for stability.

Hi, a dual G4 X-serve can easily run webseving and FMPro at the same time for a pretty busy site. The reason I use a separate database server is that the FileMaker databases are hosted on FMP server and some databases are also used by client machines which run automated processes and I don't like a client logged in to a machine that's web serving.

If you are really having stability problems, try doing a "recover" on all the databases.

regards, jeff
