Eliz309 Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 Is there anyway to have a script disconnect any users with the file open? I have a file that is used by about 6 people during the day. Inevitably one of them is always leaving the dbase open when the leave for the night. So this messes up my maintence and backup that runs in the early morning. I have tried to stress to them the importance of closing the file, but they forget.
-Queue- Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 Do they not shutdown their machines at night? What a waste of electricity.
Vaughan Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 How are they being shared? If you are using FM Server, configure it to disconnect idle users. There may be third party plugins that can disconnect users.
transpower Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 See if your backup software supports Shadow Copy (NTBackup does); if so, it doesn't matter if a user has the file open.
Eliz309 Posted October 12, 2004 Author Posted October 12, 2004 We do leave the computers on at night, just in sleep mode. We are not using FM Server, just regular FM 6. I believe that we do have something on the server that backs up anyway, we just have another backup process that burns to a CD-rom. I'll take a look at the 3rd party plug ins and see if they have something. Thanks for the help.
