I confirmed your problem: in exporting records in CSV format to Excel, field labels are not exported with the data (and I don't see any options to export the field labels). So: use ODBC. Except: by the time you get ODBC working you probably could have inserted a new row at the beginning of the Excel table and typed all the field labels yourself!

Have you tried using the Merge format and then changing the extension to .csv?
