Faxing through a fax server?

Featured Replies

Hi there -

I have three different users that need to be able to fax out of FM. Is there a plug-in or some way in FM to allow them to fax through a single machine that serves as a fax server?

Thanks

DG

Hi DG,

I think you will need to purchase a Fax program, and you will need to ensure that it the ability to be served or access through a network. I use a program called FaxSTF on my Standalone Mac that works great. It is just a matter of a Key combination when accessing the Print dialog.

There are email-to-fax services out there. With one of those, you could just use the Send Mail script step. Or, you could launch a fax program from your PC using the URL script step.

Hey there,

We use 4SightFax server/client/plugin from Soft Solutions. http://www.4sightfax.com/. Around 35 users, works great, very good company with good support.

They have an excellent demo policy, check it out and good luck.

For high volume faxing, you can't beat 4-Sight Fax. I believe Tim Haratine at Soft Solutions now has a plug-in for FileMaker, he was working on one the last time I spoke with him. I'm not a big fan of either WinFax or FaxSTF. Fax Elite on the Mac look promising for a single line client/server fax system. The advantage of 4-Sight Fax is that it will support as many lines and you can stuff Keyspan serial cards in a Mac. By the way, the server side must run on a Mac.
