Hey Guys,

I was wondering if any anyone can tell me, or if there is a tutorial on how to create an exe from the databases you create in File Maker 7. I have a small program that I found, that was written using File Maker 6. Within its directory you have the exe file itself along with various .dll files. Obvious being a self contained program, although it was written using File Maker 6, you can take that program over to any computer, even if not equiped with either File Developer or File Maker, and run it like any other program. I liked the design of the program, so currently I am working with File Maker Pro 7, to create a similar version of this program, to suit my paticular needs, and was wondering, after completeing it how can I export what I have done in File Maker, to an exe file, for other people to use.

Any help is greatly apreciated,

Thanks,

you need developer to create the self contained executable version of the database. It is single user only though - no sharing.

Maybe, if you don't have it, send the database to someone who has developer once completed and get them to convert it for you.

Sorry, Another quick question for you guys,

Once in an exe format, is there any way to take the exe, and all the dll files, and reverse the proces?, taking the exe and the dll files and change it back to an file developer file?,

Again any help is greatly apreciated,

thanks,

I think you can shift-rightclick the actual db-file and do 'open with' -> FileMaker, which allows entry to the file, bar password-protection or if the person who bound the runtime removed the admin rights.

I'm not so certain if this wouldn't be a form of 'reverse engineering' hence not all that legal, however.

Protect your developer password. Do not allow regular users access to your design (layouts, scripts, etc.).

Your About menu option must have a statement like "USER WARNING: This database solution contains password(s) that can only be provided by the Developer identified above."
