Been playing with FMSA and serving up pages to the web with lasso using Unicode. I can put text in a FM field using unicode and have it show up on the web correctly. For example, enter japanese text in the field, view the record on the web, it stays as japanese.

BUT I cant get web forms with text entered as unicode to work when submitted back to FMSA. For example, if the field on my form has been filled out using Japanese and submitted, when viewing the field contents in FMSA there is nothing but question marks and squares.

I have made sure that my web pages are set to UTF-8 encoding, but still no go. Now if I copy the text out of the FM field and paste it into a unicode savy application, the text switches back to japanese again. So I am assuming the text is technically unicode, FMSA is just not displaying it as so.

Anyone have any experiance with this, or have any suggestions?

This is not a Lasso thing I think. The text in the field (looking at the field in FM directly) that has been submitted from the web is squares. If I copy and paste it into a Unicode capable application, it shows up as Japanese. So it at least seems to me unicode. But then why does not FM show it as such?

I can select the field contents and choose the typeface to be japanese, then it shows correctly. But it is my understanding that the beauty of Unicode is that multiple languages can be entered into a field, and as long as it is unicode capable, they all should show.

I can copy the type into MS Entourage, and it shows correctly without having to change the typeface. So something here is FM is not working correctly. It does not seem to be completely Unicode compliant.

So far I don't seem to be getting any help from FileMaker themselves. I was hoping someone here had some help.

The submission to FM works, the text submitted to FM seems to be Unicode, just does not display as such. Nothing but squares.

It might be a font thing, don't know. I admit, the whole unicode is new to me, and t rying to do different languages is new too. Trying to learn more about unicode. I am thinking that maybe the fonts assigned to the fields in FM that are accepting the text input from the web have to have a unicode font assigned to the field.

I will have to do some more playing with this.
