Invoice drop down list

Hi everyone -

I'm making an invoicing system. I want to be able to select items in an invoice from a drop down list in a portal which grabs the items from a related "invoice items" table containing all of the possible invoice items.

The selection area in the "invoices" window is set up currently as a portal; the problem with this is that I can only change entries that have already been entered from the "invoice items" table, which works, but I don't want to have to keep switching windows. It would be easier to do things in one step.

I was wondering if there's a common way to do this (ie- some settings in the portal I could change so I can select data from a drop down list).
