FM 6 Win2003 Terminal Services freqnt disconnects?

Featured Replies

We are still ironing out the bugs in our new terminal server, and I'm trying to figure out why we get frequent disconnects (as often as once every two minutes). This is not a common bug with FM 6 and terminal services, is it?

Thanks,

Eric

Do you have FM Server on a separate computer? It must not be on the same computer as Windows Server/Terminal Server. One copy of FMP 7 is to be on the Windows Server/Terminal Server.

Actually we're using version 5.5 of server and 6 of Filemaker, and yes, the FM Server is on a separate computer from the terminal server machine.

And you have FMP 6 on the Terminal Server?

Eric,

We're currently running the same configuration as you describe and it works fine with one exception; if the client is running on an iffy internet connection the connection can get dropped. I VPN in from home and sometimes will get dropped unexpectedly. Maybe I'm wrong but I attribute this to my less-than-perfect ISP provider. If I connect from inside the office so the internet isn't involved the connection is rock solid.

Also, there is a setting somewhere on the TS that will disconnect the user after X minutes of inactivity. I wonder if yours was accidentially set too low for some users?

Does the connection get dropped when non-FileMaker applications are running? That may indicate whether it a FM or TS problem.

Go to the Terminal Services Configuration settings. You can set terminal services to disconnect from there.
