August 1, 200124 yr Newbies It doesn't seem like I can have more than one portal in a layout. I want to put two portals in one layout, but the data shown is simply duplicated between the two portals despite defining separate and unique relationships. One portal works fine, but the second one shows duplicate data from the first portal. However, the two separate relationships used do have similar definitions: they both use the same related file and they do both match data from the same field, but it compares from an entirely separate field. What gives?
August 1, 200124 yr Sounds like a case of "something you know, ain't so". Recheck all of your definitions, left side key fields, portal definitions, fields in the portals. If you duplicated the first portal to get the second, chances are you missed redefining something. -bd
August 2, 200124 yr Author Newbies Well it works now but I still don't know the problem was. Just deleted all portals and relationships and rebuilt from scratch. Very frustrating. I am realizing that basic troubleshooting includes nuking your problem and rebuilding from scratch. Thanks for your help!

August 5, 200124 yr Actually, I have run into problems many, many times with FM when I try to use shortcuts like duplicating things. I have a script for example, duplicate it, and try to make the new one work and it doesn't. If I rewrite the script or calculation from scratch, EXACTLY the same as it was, it works fine. lesson: never duplicate which makes me angry.
August 5, 200124 yr quote: Originally posted by rhakka: lesson: never duplicate which makes me angry. Well, it is not quite that extreme. I duplicate stuff all the time and only occassionaly have problems. Is it Filemaker? Is it my programming? Hard to answer, but having to start from scratch occassionally is not that big a deal.
August 5, 200124 yr I am always duplicating everything what is possible to duplicate. But you must know what you are doing. In case of portals you must properly the portal relation AND each field relation. Copying does not save much time here. Just the appearance may be copied.
