Get(flag) ???

Featured Replies

Ok. I feel like a fool. It won't be the last time. blush.gif

In the Specify Calculations View Functions By Name, there is a Get(flag). But it appears in none of the categories! None! It isn't listed in the Get Functions and it isn't listed if I View Functions By Type either. In fact, I went through every darned category in the functions list and can't find it.

When I type Get(flag) or even just Get in FM help, it produces the Get() functions but it isn't listed there anywhere I can find. I can find no reference to Get(flag) anywhere. When in Help, I display the alphabetical listing of all functions, it isn't listed.

I know I'll appear stupid for asking but I can't pretend I don't care. Can someone clarify for me please? I know my eyes are bad but I've been searching for an hour! Is it just a shortcut to allow manual entry of the Get() functions? Geez. crazy.gif

Of course we all know what happens ...

As soon as you give up and post, you find it. There is one sentence in a Get() functions paragraph that says "When you View all functions by name, you see only Get(flag). "

Oh brother. I suppose they think that makes it easier for us - like what? That's supposed to save us time typing it or what? If we knew how to type the entire Get() function syntax, we could certainly type the Get() part also. By putting the 'flag', we have to spend time deleting it out (or double-clicking to remove it) anyway.

All other functions are listed individually in View By Name. Inconsistent logic if you ask me; appears to be a function. Well, I almost deleted this before someone saw it but decided to leave it instead; hopefully to save someone else from wasting an hour doing what I just did.

Here I was thinking it was a new, so far undiscovered function!

Case(

Get(flag)= "stars and stripes";"get tears in eyes & salute";

Get(flag)= "union jack";"adjust tie & sing 'God save the queen'";

Get(flag)= "red-white-blue";"clean windmill & light another one";

etc. etc.

;0)

Oh wonderfully clever!!!

I know I've read that Get(flag) sentence before but I'd been up for three days. And I always use View Functions By Type. And for the first time, I left it View By Name and wham ... there it was! I couldn't believe I could have missed such an interesting-sounding function. grin.gif

While I was searching for this newly unknown-to-me function my mind flashed with universal flags that could be set throughout the graph (with or without associations) ... flags that would allow relationships to all other flags instantly on the fly ... flags that might perform magic!!!

HAH! Time for vacation. Thanks for the great morning chuckle. smile.gif
